Butternut Squash Spaghettini

On the off chance that you aren’t absolutely positively 100% over Thanksgiving, I’m going to tell you how much I love it.

I love that there are more sticks of butter in the food than people at the table.

I love that I can eat far more food than necessary and chalk it up to getting into the holiday spirit.  (Hey, I’m just showing how thankful I am for all this delicious food.)

And, most of all, I love that I know exactly what’s going to be on the table a year in advance.  Without exception, I know that there will be butternut squash soup, creamed spinach, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, homemade gravy, and of course, turkey.

We may have the occasional impromptu addition to the meal, but under no circumstances will anything be omitted from that list.  Ever.  It’s like an unwritten law.

So, you can imagine my surprise when I received a phone call from my mom saying that she was doing away with the squash soup and making a Butternut Squash Spaghettini that she saw Mario Batali make on Good Morning America instead.

Vanilla Spice Cookies and a Giveaway!

We’re close, right?  I think we are.  So I’m going to admit something personal.  I know you won’t be shocked.  I’ve alluded to it before.   You’ve seen the signs here, here, here, here, and here.  But I need to be direct now.

I am a chocoholic.

There.  I said it.  Admission is the first step to recovery.  So there’s my admission.  I’ve realized that I have a problem, and that problem is chocolate.  (I may be a cheese-aholic, and a carb-aholic, too…. But let’s tackle one issue at a time.)

When I first realized I had a problem, I did some research.  I searched the internet looking for some sort of cure.  I asked around.  I called my doctor.  But it was a dead end.  I mean, it’s not like there are 12-step programs for chocoholics.  I started to get discouraged.

But then, through what I can only describe as divine intervention, the cure fell into my lap.  I received an email from Nielsen-Massey Vanillas with an offer to review a bottle of Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract.  And with that, my recovery was set into motion.

Turkey Bolognese (Guest Post!)

Since I knew I was going to be out of the country last week, I decided to feature the first ever guest post on Food for Thought in my absence.   I immediately knew that I would ask my friend Jill to cover for me.  She is an awesome cook and baker, and I wanted to see what deliciousness she would come up with.  (BTW, she is also a great graphic designer, and just started her own design blog…. Check it out here!!)

As expected, she made something that sounds so amazing, which I can’t wait to try out on my own… Turkey Bolognese!  This definitely would have been the perfect guest post while I was away… if I had remembered to post it.   Jill knows better than anyone that I’m never on time, so I’m sure she’s not surprised that this is going up after my trip.  But hey, better late than never, right??

Thanks, Jill!!
