Handmade Za’atar Spiced Pita Bread

Now, my mom may disagree. She’s the one that gets the frantic concerned phone calls. When I need medical advice. STAT. Because I have a spot on my leg. And I’m sure it’s a tumor. Or a blood clot. Or some other life threatening illness.
And Jake may say otherwise. He’s the one that gets locked out of the apartment. After I triple lock the door. Because I’m sure that if I don’t, someone will break in and steal me. An axe murderer, perhaps. Maybe a sexual predator. I live in NYC, so that’s not too irrational, right? Hmm… maybe I should stop watching Law & Order SVU.

When sharing a little 600 square foot apartment, you learn how to distinguish what you really want from what you really need. You only buy what’s absolutely necessary. You hold off on getting anything that will take up a lot of space. You make do with what you have…
…in the Land of Make Believe.
In real life, you cram. You cram your sweaters and jackets into huge Tupperware containers and shove them under the bed during the summer. You cram up all of your college textbooks and old stuffed animals into boxes and store them in your storage unit parents’ basement (thanks, mom!). And you cram your boyfriend’s clothes onto one closet shelf and take the rest for yourself. (You might have to repeat that last step a few times. He may think he is entitled to more than one shelf. Don’t worry. He’ll learn.)
What you don’t do is deprive yourself. You never know when you’ll need that panini maker, or when that fifth pair of super cute boots will come in handy. Read the rest of this entry »

Isn’t that how that saying goes? You have to mix it up a little bit to keep things interesting. Doing the same old things, eating the same old meals…. Boring!
Believe me; I am in no danger of getting bored anytime soon. I have packed my days with so many different projects and activities, that I yearn to be bored. I had a free weekend last week, so I squeezed in a weekend long garage sale with my mom. Of course! It’s not like I had school work to do, or errands to run (food shopping/cleaning/cooking – you name it), or ever need a minute to relax…
But if you’re not as crazy fortunate as me to pack your days so full that there’s no room for boredom, try out this Spicy Chicken and Rice Stew. Add some spice to your life, both literally and figuratively. Plus, it’s so super quick and easy, it’ll give you some time to cram something else into your day relax! Read the rest of this entry »
